“Poetry might be defined as the clear expression of mixed feelings.”
—W.H. Auden

I've been writing poetry for thirty years in an effort to explore and discover our unseen, inside worlds with a view to expressing them on the outside......hence
"Inside-to-outside-poetry"
Through many seasons of spiritual growth and deepening understanding, the purpose of my poems is to facilitate an insight into self-knowledge. Spirit, soul & body work as a unit to present a whole picture of who someone is.......the triune unit..... a unique framework that never operates in isolation. Housed in a physical body, the soul (mind, will & emotions) functions with the spirit (intuition, conscience & spiritual communication). These components come together to form our lifeblood – as soul and spirit combine to inhabit and characterize body - driving its existence, its energy and its impact on those around us.
The soul is the seat of mind, will and emotions……..the functional outworking of personality….using the body as a vehicle. The spirit is a deeper sense-organ beyond these realms…….overseeing and adjudicating motives, insights and impressions.
Here is a sampling of what I am trying to describe – the second of three poems from a set called
“THE TRIUMVIRATE : Enclosures: Body, Soul and Spirit”
THE TRIUMVIRATE 2:
THE TEMPLE - THE SOUL
As I mount the slope to my inner court,
My senses start to wane
I’m entering into a different realm
The framework of my brain.
Here is my theatre of multiple walls,
Images, waves and views,
Screened in flashes of lightning speed
Triggered by signals and cues.
My mind, my will – they meet and part
A thousand times a day,
Networking impulse, emotion and drive,
In cycles that shift and sway.
This is my engine – my IOS,
My intimate magic mix,
The sanctuary of my daily thoughts...
My inner clock that ticks.
Enclosure.......abode.......
The address of my domain,
Here I live and here I die
Again.....and again.....and again.
